Creating your own party invitations is a great way to put your lettering skills into practise. You’ll be guided through the design process starting from initial thumbnails and progressing to final artwork.What students liked most about this course run in 2015/16:"Learning a beautiful way of writing in a very calming environment. Tutor was always very encouraging whenever anyone got a bit stuck or overwhelmed."

About this course

- Write with different sizes of nibs- Write on different paper surfaces- Design at least one finished piece of artworkFor more advanced learners:- Work on personal projects with assistance and guidance from the tutor.

No equipment is needed for the first session. However, you will need to purchase an A3 folder for handouts, worksheets and your own visual reference material.Advice will be given about tools and materials you can purchase to enable practise between sessions or when embarking on further study.

About your tutor:
Sharon Shaw
A practising calligrapher and lettering artist whose clients include JWT, Cafod, Honno Press, Roehampton University, The London Film School and the British Antiques Dealers’ Association. She studied Calligraphy and Bookbinding course at Roehampton Univeristy and gained a first class honours degree in 2003. In 2010 she was awarded Fellowship of the Society of Scribes and Illuminators. Sharon’s other courses at City Lit are: Callligraphy for Beginners and Lettering with Illustration .
