The Delta consists of three separate modules. This modular framework aims to provide an accessible professional development programme by offering flexible entry points.
You can choose to take any or all of the modules, in
any order. Each module is assessed independently
and separately certificated. Achievement of a Pass
in all three modules will give you the full Delta
qualification.
Delta Modules can be taken at any stage in a
teacher’s career. They are suitable for in-service
teachers of English in a variety of teaching
contexts.
Candidates taking the Delta will normally have an
initial ELT qualification and will have had at least
two years’ ELT experience.
Achievement of the Delta can prepare teachers for
more senior teaching roles, or facilitate progression
to further qualifications such as an MA in Linguistics
and Language Teaching.

Course programme

The Part-time Course:

• The 12-week course is offered in the spring and in the autumn, to prepare you for the June and December exam dates.
• The input sessions take place on Wednesday evenings, with a one-week break in the middle.
• You should expect to spend a minimum of 10-15 hours a week on reading and tasks.
• You will be given pre-session preparation, post-session follow-up in the form of reading and exam-related tasks to complete and submit for feedback.

Assessment:

• During the course, most of your written work will be accessed and completed in electronic form via email and a lot of communication will also be by email.
• You will be expected to upload and download course-related material before and during the course, therefore regular Internet access is important.
• As the exam is hand-written, some tasks will be completed in this way to help you prepare.

The Exam:

• There are two 90-minute exams, with a 30-minute break between them.
• The exams are on the first Wednesday of June and December each year.
• St Giles Brighton is a Cambridge examination centre so the exam can be taken at the school.
• Successful candidates can achieve one of the following: Pass with Distinction, Pass with Merit, Pass.
• You will receive a statement of results approximately two months after the exam, and certificates are issued about six weeks after this.
