The Pathway is perfect for people with no experience in animal care because it combines the foundational Certificate II in Animal Studies with the more advanced Certificate III in Captive Animals course. This means that you get a thorough education, and a great foundation of knowledge from which you can build a solid career in zoo keeping.During your studies you will learn:How to work and communicate effectively within the animal care industry, work within WHS guidelines, and participate in environmentally sustainable work practices.Look after animal nutrition and hygiene and assist in the healthcare of animals.Provide basic first aid for animals, prepare and maintain animal housing, and assist with capturing, restraining and moving animals.Maintain and monitor animal health and wellbeing, provide enrichment activities, and identify and report signs of ill health or injury. How to specifically care for young animals, native animals and non-venomous reptiles.Prepare and present information to the public. Two work placement modules included in the Pathway mean that you get to put your knowledge to work in a real world zoo, veterinary surgery, wildlife park, mobile zoo, theme park or aquarium of your choosing.Studying the Captive Animals Pathway online with Open Colleges means there are no classrooms and no deadlines. You can fit learning around your life, and study whenever you want, wherever you want. You will save a significant amount of money by combining the two Certificates in one Pathway program, as opposed to studying them separately. This course is offered by Open Colleges on behalf of TAFE NSW North Region. This course involves work placement that currently needs to be undertaken in Australia. More information available in our FAQs
