Course programme
Develop your specialist skills in caring for patients and their family who require cardiac rehabilitation. Reflexively review the provision of holistic care to meet the physical, psychological and social needs of patients. Use the theory to compare and contrast differing perspectives on treatment and management to deliver an effective programme of cardiac rehabilitation.
This course will enhance current understanding and complement existing knowledge surrounding the holistic care of cardiac patients and their family. It will focus on the importance of cardiac rehabilitation, the phases, benefits and risks associated with cardiac rehabilitation for the selected patient group, the current burden caused by cardiac diseases, risk factors, lifestyle management and cardio-protective therapies. The importance of illness perceptions play a key role in influencing people’s health behaviours as they recover from an acute cardiac episode or cope with the impact of a chronic cardiac disease. It is therefore important that health care practitioners acquire the necessary knowledge and skills in order to effectively and efficiently provide and deliver quality care to those individuals. The key elements of an effective cardiac rehabilitation programme are also discussed. Interprofessional team working is essential in the delivery of high quality care.
The knowledge acquired through this course will assist health care professionals to analyse the most appropriate interventions and treatments for managing their clients’ needs. This will enable you to understand why “you are doing what you are doing”. In relating the theory to your practice, you can compare and contrast different perspectives on treatment and management which is imperative for safe and effective clinical practice.
The achievement of learning outcomes will be assessed at Level 7 by a 3000 word assignment.
