Course Level 3

Description
This programme which leads to the award of a Level 3 National Vocational Qualification in Care, is based on a unit approach. Core units are the basis of the award with specialist units offered to allow candidates to match the qualifications to their jobs.

It is aimed at experienced care workers with some supervisory and areas of responsibility within their field of work.


Course Length
The programme of underpinning knowledge is 18 months. Assessment will take place during this time, at allocated points in your course.

What will I study?
There are four mandatory units:

  • Promote effective communication for and about individuals
  • Promote monitor and maintain health, safety and security in the working environment
  • Reflect and develop your practice
  • Promote choice, well-being and the protection of all individuals.

    To achieve this award the candidate selects four option units.

    All four option units should be chosen to suit their job role.

    Advice will be given by course tutors as to which option units to select.


    How will I learn?
    The programme is delivered using a variety of methods. Individual tutorials, small and large group work, projects, case studies, discussion and examination of work practices. Students are encouraged to develop study techniques which will allow them to gather knowledge from a range of sources.

    How will I be assessed?
    Candidates are assessed in their own workplace. Candidates submit a portfolio of evidence. This evidence can be direct observation check lists/comments, photographs, audio recordings, diaries, written case studies and accounts etc. Candidates are helped to prepare their portfolio by College tutors.

    Where could it lead?
    A1 & A2 Assessor Awards. This will allow you to become an assessor for Care. Progression to senior posts within the care field.
