Course programme
This course is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills you need to supervise and care for young children. You will study a number of core and optional units, which include: Growth and Development of Young Children, Craft Activities for Young Children, Practical Health and Safety, Respecting and Valuing Children.
- You are expected to have literacy and numeracy skills to Level 1.
- All candidates are tested in literacy and numeracy prior to enrolment, so this is not a formal requirement.
- If you have specific support needs (e.g. childcare or learning support), you can bring these up at your interview prior to enrolment.
- You will also need an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check which costs approximately £50.
Assessment is by coursework. In addition to receiving a Level 1 Diploma, you will also receive a certificate of Functional Skills in English.
This Level 1 course is intended to be introductory. For a more practical and career-focused course, you could progress to a Level 2 qualification in Childcare and Education.
