This course is for anyone wishing to begin the progression towards joining the childrens workforce. This may be young people who are currently still at school (14 - 16) who have not yet taken their GCSE exams but who wish to gain a qualification and some of the skills that will be needed in working with children. Or could be older learners who do not have formal qualifications who also wish to work towards gaining an accredited qualfiication that will help them to achieve the skills needed to access a level 2 qualficiation.

Course programme
There are no formal entry requirements; places are allocated following interview. Students must be able to work together in a safe positive way to complete a range of both practical and coursework related assessment. Students (14-16) must have an acceptable level of numeracy and literacy and have a proven track record of good attendance, achievement and behaviour from their past school.
Students will undertake a mixture of practical and class based work; some in our indoor playroom and some in our outdoor classroom in Forest School. Subjects could include: Encouraging children to eat healthily, Physical Activities for Children, Creative play, Health & Safety, Learning through everyday experiences, Books & stories for children and Music and rhyme.
The completion of the full level 1 diploma to a good standard together with a positive attitude and an enthusiastic approach to working with children and a successful interview will enable you to progress on to the level 2.
