You will learn by a series of extended practical exercises in well-equipped workshops, backed up by relevant classroom theory.
You will cover the following units:
Carry out safe working practices in construction
Information, quantities and communicating with others
Building methods and construction technology
Carry out first fixing operations
Carry out second fixing Erect structural carcassing
Carry out maintenance
Set up and operate a circular saw
Construct a Timber Frame Entrance
You also study Functional Skills qualifications in Maths and English, if required. On completion of the course learners are competent enough to complete small jobs for family and friends. Door fitting, skirting and architrave and flooring techniques are some of the skills gained. This course is delivered at Keighley College. Practical sessions delivered within purpose built workshops provide a simulated working experience.
The College offers excellent facilities and is easily accessible through public transport You can progress to a Level 3 Construction Diploma (Wood Occupations) offered at Leeds City College (Keighley Campus).
You could also progress onto an Apprenticeship and work towards an NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations, or into employment.
