Course programme

Under the rules set by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) all mortgage advisers needs to be properly qualified and deemed to be competent before they can give any type of mortgage advice. Passing either the Certificate in Mortgage Advice (CMA) or the CeMAP qualification is the first step to a career as a mortgage advisor.

These qualification are also suitable for those looking to work in the mortgage or retail banking industry as technical supporters (paraplanners), marketing, sales persons, IT technicians and customer service advisers. It shows commitment to the industry and the institute you work for.

Those who are looking to enter the mortgage advice profession there are two options. Do the CeMAP qualification provided by the Institute of Financial Services or the Certificate in Mortgage Advice qualification provided by the Chartered Insurance Institute. Both qualifications are of equal value and accepted by all of the financial services industry.

Our training is based on the CII’s Certificate in Mortgage Advice (CMA). The qualification is based on 2 units (compared to 3 papers with CeMAP).
Rules and regulation of Financial Services (CF1).
Mortgage advice (CF6).

There are certain advantages to doing the CMA exam. There are only two papers, the papers 2 and 3 of CeMAP is combined in to a single exam. CII exams are also more practical based. That is exams are designed to test the applicant’s knowledge on real life situations.

You can mix and match the two exams. If you have already passed CeMAP part one you may want to switch to CMA CF6 and do just one exam rather than two outstanding CeMAP papers. Talk to us about mixing the exams if you require further details.

Having only two exam makes the whole process less expensive for you. In the event you fail the cost of retaking will be less.

There is no right way to do the exams. Some actually prefer to do the second more practical based CF6 first rather than the more dry, rules and regulation based CF1.

The course includes :
- Training towards Certificate in Mortgage Advice qualification.
- Extensive practice with past papers and questions.
- Help with choosing a career as a mortgage adviser - employed and self employed.
- Potential to work with a mortgage brokerage to gain experience.
- Training in basic book keeping and accounts for those looking to become self employed brokers either through a large network or by themselves.
- How to deal with FSA regulatory returns when you start practicing.
