About this course
Students aged 16-18 need to directly apply to a Training Agent, who will arrange an apprenticeship with an employer and placement on the appropriate college course. For students aged 19+ it is recommended that you have 3 GCSE`s grades `C` or above. These should include; Maths, English and a Science.

Introduction:
This Intermediate course will give you a basic understanding of the skills needed within the plumbing trade.
Study Mode & Location:
Students will attend college one day each week to study for the Certificate in Basic Plumbing Studies - Level 2.
Course Content:
This course will consist of:
Technology
- Safety
- Cold water systems
- Domestic Hot Water Systems
- Sanitation Systems
- Central Heating Systems
- Electrical Supply
- Sheet Lead Weathering
- Environmental Awareness
- Effective Working Relationships
Practical
- Safe use of access equipment and hazardous materials/equipment
- Pipe fitting
- Installing a central heating system, bathroom suite and associated components
- Sheet lead weathering installations
- Commissioning, testing and maintenance
NOTE: Protective footwear and overalls MUST be provided by the student and worn at all times in the practical workshops.
Assessment:
Assessment for this course will consist of 13 examinations (80% pass mark) and 60 timed practical assessments of competence.
Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Successful completion of this course can lead to students progressing onto the Level 3 course.
Additional Costs:
Basic stationery must be provided by the student and must include:
- an A4 ring binder
- A4 lined paper
- pens/pencils
- a simple calculator
- an engineers scale rule
All items are available for purchase through the college.
Additional Information:
You will be required to purchase the recommended protective clothing necessary for this programme of study.

Part-Time+ Route
You will need to complete a Further Education Application Form. These will be available from mid-May.
Many courses have limited places so please return your application form as soon as possible. Following acceptance of your application, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
Part-Time Only Route
You will need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser.

Depending upon your circumstances, you may be able to study for FREE or at a reduced price.
Part-Time+ Course Benefits
