Talking About Yourself and Others

In this lesson, you will use the verbs be, have, and like to talk about people. You will give personal information, describe people, talk about family relationships, and express preferences. You will also practice some greetings and simple conversations.

Let's Go Shopping

In this lesson, you will use the simple present of the verbs shop and want. You will also learn to use How much + be to ask questions about prices. You will name and describe articles of clothing and other items in a store. You will learn the names of different types of stores. You will also practice the language for making purchases with coins, bills, and checks.

Food

Today, you will review the use of How much + be to ask about prices. You will practice the simple present of the verbs eat, like, need, want, and make to talk about buying and eating food. You will also compare prices using cheaper and more expensive. You will learn vocabulary for various meals and foods, read food advertisements, compare prices, and practice placing orders for food.

Housing

In this lesson, you will review the use of simple present tense verbs such as live to talk about housing. You will practice asking Yes/No questions with the verb have (Does it have air-conditioning?). Also, you will learn the present continuous tense (She is looking for an apartment.). You’ll learn to identify different types of housing, describe parts of a home, interpret classified ads, use the telephone to make appointments, and identify furniture.

Our Community

This lesson contrasts the use of the simple present and the present continuous. It also introduces adverbs of frequency (such as always and never) and questions with can (Can I ask you a question?). In addition, you will learn to identify locations and services, give and follow street directions and directions in a mall, leave phone messages, and write a message on a postcard.

Review of Lessons 1-5

This lesson reviews the material covered in Lessons 1 through 5. It covers these topics: talking with others, shopping, food, housing, and the local community. The grammar points introduced and practiced in Lessons 1 through 5 are also covered.

Health and Fitness

This lesson reviews the simple present tense of regular verbs, such as hurt and take, as well as the irregular simple present-tense verb have (I have/he has). It also introduces the modal should (you should see a doctor) and the use of want + infinitive (they want to walk). You will also practice identifying parts of the body, describing illnesses and health problems, giving advice, asking for information at a hospital, and describing healthy and unhealthy practices.

Working on It

You will continue practicing simple present affirmative and negative statements. You will also learn the simple past of regular verbs (clean/cleaned) and the simple past of the irregular verb be (I was, you were). You will also practice identifying common occupations, interpreting classified ads, writing your job history, performing a job interview, and interpreting performance reviews.

Wednesday - Lesson 09

You will continue studying more regular and irregular simple past tense verb forms. You will also expand your practice of the verb + infinitive form (I like to drive) and the verb + noun form (I like cars). In addition, you will study the future tense with will and the future tense with going to. Topics will include evaluating study habits, organizing study materials, identifying learning opportunities, identifying work preferences, and developing goals.

People and Learning

This lesson introduces comparative and superlative adjectives (for instance, taller and tallest). It also reviews the simple present forms of regular verbs (such as live) as well as the irregular verbs be and have. You will also practice asking for and giving personal information, identifying family relationships, describing people, interpreting and writing schedules, and talking about the weather.

More About Shopping

This lesson introduces the use of this, that, these, and those. You will also review the simple present tense, comparative and superlative adjectives, and present continuous statements. You will learn how to identify and describe clothing, ask about prices, read advertisements and receipts, and ask for assistance in a store.

Review

In this lesson, you will review the information you learned in Lessons 7 through 11. You will talk about these topics: health and fitness, working, people and learning, everyday life, and shopping. You will also review the grammar rules you learned in Lessons 7 through 11.
