Course overview Do you have a role which focuses on practical teaching? For example, do you teach short courses or recreational evening classes, or train using materials someone else has developed? If so, the Certificate in Education and Training is for you. This is a 36 credit course at level 4 with a focus on practical teaching. It is appropriate for teachers, tutors, trainers, lecturers and instructors who may be working within an FE college, Adult and Community Learning and for those delivering work based learning such as within voluntary, community, private and public organisations. The Certificate gives the candidate the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills needed to confirm occupational competence. This includes the planning and delivering of schemes of work and sessions, negotiation of individual goals, different teaching and learning strategies, communication issues and exploring a range of assessment practices. Teaching practice of at least 30 hours is a requirement of the qualification. Entry requirements Trainees will need to have: A level 1 qualification in maths and English. A level 3 qualification in the subject they intend to teach. A minimum of 30 hours of teaching over the life of the course which can include small groups and one to one sessions and may be paid or voluntary. A mentor who has experience in teaching their specialist subject. Trainees should not have a criminal background which might prevent them from working as a teacher with young people or vulnerable adults.
