About this course

Applicants must be 19 years old at least. We welcome applicants of all ages over 19. No formal qualifications are required although prior GCSEs will be valuable for some aspects of the programme. Return to Learn Course is also available to help people return to study and prepare for Access entry.

ACCESS TO TEACHER TRAINING

2 year programme: 3 days per week, 9.15am-2.30pm

Course Description
The course is a nationally recognised Access programme, for those wishing to enter Teacher Training or general study at Higher Education degree level.
You will study core modules of English and Math at GCSE equivalence and I.T. Option modules include Research, Psychology, Sociology, Social Policy, English Literature, History and Science.
For Teacher Training you must study a minimum of 2 national curriculum subjects.

How is the Qualification Achieved ?
The Access to Higher Education course uses a range of assessment methods and is designed to prepare students for joining University. You will be expected to complete written assignments, projects, case studies, reports, seminars and end of module examinations.

How to join this course

Students should complete an application form which are available from the college internet site or via our Advice Centres.
All students are invited to an interview where you will be given an overview of the Access to Higher Education Pathways Programmes offered at NEW College. You will be invited to complete a short written comprehension task which involves reading a passage and answering some questions on it. You will also have a short interview with one of the Access to Higher Education tutors. You should take no longer than 2 hours including the comprehension task.
All students should also complete an assessment of their skills in literacy and numeracy prior to starting the course. This does not need to be completed at the same time as the interview and students are invited to contact the college learning skills advisors to book in for an Initial Assessment. Dates for students to complete the initial assessment at either Redditch College or Bromsgrove College are as follows:

Redditch
Monday: 14.30-17.00
Tuesday: 09.00-10:45
Friday: 13.00-16.00

Bromsgrove
Tuesday: 13.00-16.00
Friday: 09.00-11.30

Following your interview, and on receipt of your initial assessment results we will be able to recommend the best pathway for you to achieve your qualifications.

Steps into Education, which enables students to have a gentle introduction to returning to study
Two-year Access to HE Programme
One-year, intense Access to HE Programme
