Certificate of Higher Education in Combined Studies (subject to validation)
This new programme provides students with the opportunity to research an area of particular interest in the first term through an independent research project and then to complement this research with four CertHE modules drawn from other CertHE programmes. All students are required to complete the Independent Project module in the first term and will choose from a range of CertHE modules for the remaining two terms.

The course content will largely be determined by the student's own research interests and will relate to their political, social, and cultural experiences. Students should have some idea of what subject areas relate to their projects before they apply and this will be taken up with individual students during the interview process and throughout the first term.

Overall Course Aims
The programme aims to facilitate students in acquiring the necessary research skills, theoretical knowledge and academic competence to embark on a degree course with confidence. It will do this by providing students the opportunity to take up a research project that reflects their own particular academic and personal interests. In completing this project, students will gain valuable transferable research skills and subject-specific knowledge. Students will then take a selection of modules from a range of disciplines in order to add to their knowledge and academic competence.

Learning Methods and Strategies
In the first term, students will be taught through weekly seminars, weekly workshops and study skills sessions and weekly small group tutorials. Guided individual study will be an essential component of the first term.
In the final two terms, teaching and learning strategies will depend on the modules selected. Teaching includes seminars, tutorials, guided individual study, group work, practical exercises and internet exercises.
