Course description
The course is aimed at students who wish to go on to higher education or to the world of work - where having an understanding of how ICT can be used in society and organisations, and the implications of its use will be a
valuable asset.
At AS Level you will study two modules: â€OEInformation systems†and â€OEPresenting information†. The first module is examined in an end of year exam paper; the second is internally assessed. For the first module you will produce practical work during the course on which questions will be set in the exam. You will hand in evidence of your practical work with the exam paper. You will also answer questions about the wider use of ICT.
In the second module you will undertake a series of small practical tasks focused on presenting information. In the second year, you will complete two modules â€" the â€OEUse and impact of ICT†(tested in an examination) and a coursework unit, â€OERelational databases†. The coursework follows a systems approach: you will use a relational database package to create a complete realistic solution to an information problem.
You should spend at least three hours each week working at a computer and will be encouraged to give presentations using an interactive whiteboard. You are expected to maintain personal knowledge of IT developments. Study will involve textbooks, program manuals, help files, user guides and the occasional guest speaker from the IT Industry.

We work in close partnership with local schools which enables us to run minority subjects that have small numbers. It may be that you attend classes in one of our partner institutions. You will have a clear understanding at the interview stage about your timetable and where your lessons occur.
A levels are divided into two courses, AS taken in the first year and A2 in the second year; combined together they equal a full A level. Both the AS and A2 courses comprise 2 units. On the whole, A levels are assessed through formal examinations at the end of the AS programme and then again at the end of the A2 programme. In some practically based subjects there is a coursework component. Both AS and A2 qualifications count towards the requirements for university entrance.
*Students aged 16-18 will not be required to pay the full course fee, in most cases your fee will not exceed £150. Please contact us if you need more information regarding fees for full-time courses.
