Gain a qualification which aims to up skill primary school teachers and higher level teaching assistants to improve the overall delivery of the Physical Education (PE) curriculum;
Discover how to understand the requirements of the primary school PE curriculum, explore the links between the principles of pedagogy and child development and assess how using a range of activities can impact on ‘good or better’ teaching and learning within the subject;
Develop plans for units of work, use assessment to impact on learning and progress, and evaluate and review these plans to inform future planning;

About this course

The programme is ideal for Physical Education Leads, classroom teachers, HTLAs, PGCE students, Secondary Physical Education teachers or professionals working in curriculum Primary Physical Education (PE). We are particularly keen to invite classroom teachers with limited PE experience onto the course.

To join this programme you should already have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Higher Level Teaching Assistant status or be registered on a QTS degree or equivalent.

Following certification, qualified teachers will be eligible to attend the Award in Primary School Physical Education Subject Leadership (Level 6) enabling colleagues to take subject leadership within primary school physical education teaching and deliver high quality primary school physical education.

Will I be undertaking physical activity?

Yes, the course includes both theoretical and practical sessions. You will be expected to participate in national curriculum physical activities. However, the teaching and learning strategies are inclusive and are therefore accessible for all.Who will be teaching me?

Additional information

On completion of the Level 5 qualification, qualified teachers will have the opportunity to complete a two day Level 6 certificate in Physical Education Subject Leadership (June 2017). All delegates and their schools will also be eligible to attend free professional development sessions throughout the year, including Mental Health First Aid, Adapted Physical Activities, Yoga for Kids and Moving Maths events.
