This is a vocational QCF qualification with 180 guided learning hours (plus 3 – 5 hours per week home study). The purpose of this qualification is to confirm your competence in a Level 3 Teaching Assistant role, which supports learning in a school environment. The qualification enable you to develop and demonstrate the skills and knowledge to work in an unsupervised role or in a team leading position within the school workforce, directly supporting teaching in primary, secondary or special school.

The primary purpose of this qualification is to confirm your competence in a supporting teaching and learning role in a school environment. This qualification builds on the skills and knowledge developed on the Level 2 Certificate and you’ll be expected to demonstrate autonomy and higher levels of responsibility, including:

  • providing effective support for teachers and pupils
  • assisting with and delivering learning programmes
  • developing professional relationships with other members of the school workforce
  • promoting equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people
  • directly supporting children and young people’s development
  • safeguarding the wellbeing of children and young people
  • communicating with children, young people and adults

You’ll also develop a wide range of personal, transferable skills, such as teamwork, communication skills, self-assessment, planning and development, which will benefit you as you progress through your career.

The NCFE Level 3 Certificate contains 11 mandatory units to help you gain skills and knowledge in the areas relevant to your job role.
