Who is this for?
For beginners and those who have learnt a little Chinese and wish to review and practise. It will be helpful for people who are going to travel to a Chinese speaking country and people who are simply interested in Chinese culture and would like to have the experience of speaking the language.

What Will I Learn?
To speak and understand basic Chinese on the following topics:
- to introduce yourself and other people (family&friends)
- to do shopping
- to order food in a restaurant
- to use local public transport
- to book hotel rooms
- to understand some principles of reading and writing characters
- to learn to write some characters
- to know more about life in China.

Content of the Course
This course is for complete beginners with no previous knowledge of the language and aims to teach colloquial Chinese about everyday situations. Classes will be based mainly on speaking and listening with reading and writing introduced at a pace which learners feel comfortable with. Chinese culture, conversations and way of life will be introduced alongside the teaching of language.

Equipment Needed
Textbook, notebooks and cassettes.

Work needed to be Done outside of the Classroom
Practise the language learnt in class for 1-2 hours at least twice a week.

Assessment Details
No formal exam required unless learners choose to do so. Help will be offered to students who want to try to pass an exam.

What Next?
Students can carry on their study after this three month course to expand their knowledge in Chinese.
