Objectives
On successful completion of this course, attendees will be able to:

• choose the appropriate file definition options
• define LSRPOOLS and tune LSR Lookasides
• describe the effects of the SIT parameters CILOCK and FTIMOUT
• explain how File Control liaises with VSAM
• choose which files are appropriate for the exploitation of CMDTs, UMDTs or CFDTs
• exploit RLS VSAM
• Debug file wait problems, including FCIOWAIT, FCXCWAIT, ENQ SUSPEND, string and buffer waits.

Systems programmers and senior CICS applications developers.

Experience as a CICS systems programmer or a CICS applications developer.

Resource definitions
VSAM (KSDS, RRDS, ESDS); VSAM (RLS); LSRPOOLS; Data Tables (CMDTs, UMDTs and CFDTs).


Internal architecture
Locking: CILOCK (NO|YES), non-RLS CI Level locking, non-RLS Record Level locking, RLS - Record Level locking; VSWAs, FRABs, FLABs and FCTEs; Function Shipping.


Debugging and tuning
IPCS analysis of File Control and Dispatcher domains; exploration of I/O avoidance techniques.
