To gain the Level 3 Diploma in dog grooming you will train with us within a commercial environment so you have plenty of opportunity for practical application and styling on a range of Level 3 dog breeds and others. You will work with and be taught by Sara Hart LCGI, ABDN, a City & Guilds Medal for Excellence Winner for her amazing tutoring skills, student support and professionalism.

About this course

This course is for those wishing to become professional dog groomers, either working as a stylist within a dog grooming salon or wishing to establish their own business.

This course is for those wishing to become professional dog groomers, we welcome all ages and specialise in more mature students.

You will need to have completed the City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate and possess relevant understanding and skills required to train at this level, before enrolling on this course

City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in dog Grooming

Our students have opportunity to interact with clients, and will be expected to groom their own dogs within the qualification time frames under supervision and full support, so they are ready to succeed within a commercial environment, be able to meet exam requirements and this will also help toward them succeeding within their own business. The maximum number of students within a practical class is four and very often 1-2-1 teaching takes place due to our flexible teaching rota.

Course programme

Health and safety, legislation and code of practice for the dog grooming industry.
Prepare, styling and finishing a dog.
Health checking and handling a dog within a dog grooming environment.
Customer service and record keeping in a dog grooming environment.
Within this syllabus is the application of animal welfare to a high standard, appropriate handling skills and understanding of canine behaviour, animal learning theory and communication.

Additional information

There are also structured classroom sessions covering necessary theory including canine behaviour and handling, taught by Dean Hart MSc CFBA AABP, a qualified and experienced clinical canine behaviourist.  This course requires 300 guided learning hours (see notes below), production of a portfolio, written and practical exams. The Total Qualification Time (TQT) is 426 hours. Students will need to plan for College attendance and time at home for additional study.
