On completion individuals are conversant with the format, content and the application of the current edition of the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671: 2008 (17th edition). Suitable for: It is primarily aimed at practising electricians and other allied professionals e.g. electrical engineers, contracts managers, designers, consultants, surveyors, and other related trades with a good working knowledge of BS 7671, who have already achieved the City & Guilds Certificate in the requirements for electrical installations (BS 7671: 2001) (2381) or recognised equivalent.

About this course

It is expected that candidates must have achieved one of the following qualifications which addresses the requirements for BS 7671 and will be required to provide a copy of the qualification before booking onto the course:
• City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671: June 2001 (2381), or
• City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology Installation (Building and Structures) (2330-07), or
• City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology Electrical Maintenance (2330-08), or

Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations Update (BS7671: 2008)

Pre-requisites: It is expected that candidates must have achieved one of the following qualifications which addresses the requirements for BS 7671 and will be required to provide a copy of the qualification before booking onto the course:

  • City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671: June 2001 (2381), or
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology Installation (Building and Structures) (2330-07), or
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology Electrical Maintenance (2330-08), or
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Electrical Installation Part Two (2360) (from January 1st 2004 onwards only)
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Knowledge of Electrical Installations (2351-01) (from January 1st 2004 onwards only)

Course outline: There are eight units making up the course relating to Parts 1-7 and the Appendices of BS 7671:2008:

  • Scope, object and fundamental principles
  • Definitions
  • Assessment of general characteristics
  • Protection for safety
  • Selection and erection of equipment
  • Inspection and testing
  • Special installations or locations
  • Appendices

It should be noted that limited instruction will be provided on existing requirements and electrical science.
