About this course

This course is aimed at practising electricians who have not carried out inspection and testing since qualifying or who require some update of training before going on to other City & Guilds qualifications.The qualification is also suitable for those with limited experience of initial inspection of electrical installations, such as those entering the industry from other engineering disciplines or who have been working in allied trades.

This course requires a thorough understanding of the requirements of BS7671 Wiring Regulations. It is expected students will hold a recent and relevant certificate in the wiring regulations and have some previous experience of inspection and testing techniques.

Course programme

The course covers the principles, practices and legislation for the initial verification of electrical installations.
The course also includes two City & Guilds assessments
Day One - Introduction to Inspection and Testing theory and practical, explanations and demonstrations.
Day Two- inspection and Testing theory continued with practical exercises, completion of certificates and theory papers.
Day Three- practical and theory practice
Day Four- 1x 40 question online multiple choice exam and 2-hour practical assignment.
Some practical assessments may take place on the fifth day.
The benefits of this course are that it provides formal training for inspection and testing of electrical installations in accordance with BS7671.
