Course suitability

This course is suitable for any one wishing to learn about floristry and floral design.

None, although basic literacy and numeracy are required.

Information about the course

This is a level 1 introductory couse, designed for beginners, which develops the elements of design and colour theory required for all floral design, using a variety of basic floristry techniques.

Please be aware that students must purchase their own flowers and sundries on a weekly basis.

Course content

Learners will be introduced to the basic design elements, colour, line, texture, form and balance. Learners will produce a variety of handtied designs (3 for assessment) and a folder of notes.

Learners will gain skills in conditioning and handling cut flower materials, techniques used in floristry, assembling floral handtied designs in a variety of styles and methods of packaging.

Students are required to keep a workbook of design and a floristry related folder.

Additionality

All learners enrolling on a part time accredited course take part in an initial assessment in literacy and/or numeracy to ensure any support needed is available.

Students are required to purchase their own flowers and sundries on a weekly basis. The tutor will supply this list weekly. Please allow for these additional costs.

Continuous assessment plus portfolio to be externally verified.
