Course suitability

This course is suitable for anyone wishing to learn about floristry and floral design.

Entry qualifications

None, but basic literacy and numeracy are required as a portfolio of work is required to be completed.

Information about the course

This is a level 1 introductory course, designed for beginners, which develops the elements of design and colour theory required for all floral design, using a variety of basic floristry techniques.

Students will need to purchase their own flowers and sundries on a weekly basis so please allow for these additional costs.

Course content

Use colour, line and texture to select and make various different designs, of which 2 small tributes will be used for assessment.
Use of wiring and ribbons.
Estimate cost and time required to complete designs.
Care and safe use of tools and equipment.


Learners will gain skills in conditioning and handling cut flower materials, techniques used in floristry, assembling floral tributes and methods of packaging.

Additionality

Students will be contacted prior to the start of the course regarding flowers and equipment to bring to the first lesson. Subsequent weeks flowers to be purchased will be given on a weekly basis.

You will need to purchase your own flowers and materials each week, therefore please allow for these additional costs.

Assessment

Continuous assessment plus a portfolio of work to be externally verified.
