About the course:
The skills developed by the learner include: communication skills, organisation skills, the ability to work unsupervised, safely and effectively, how to remove hair from the body and face whilst adapting techniques according to the situation, the ability to plan and promote services and advise on aftercare products.
The knowledge acquired by the learner will enable them to understand the hair growth cycle and patterns, the theory behind the products, equipment and techniques required to perform waxing treatments.
It includes the following knowledge.
- desirable characteristics of an appropriate treatment environment
- the factors that need to be considered
- known contra-indications to waxing treatments
- the types of tests that are carried out before providing a waxing treatment
- the different types of waxing methods and products available
- the advantages and disadvantages of alternative methods of hair removal
- the effects alternative methods of hair removal may have on the skin and waxing treatments
- the normal response of the skin to waxing treatments
- the contra-actions that may result from a waxing treatment
- the methods of evaluating the effectiveness of waxing treatments
- the aftercare advice that should be provided
- the structure, main functions, main diseases and disorders of the hair and skin.
- chemical reaction which creates the tinting effect
- the structure, main function, main diseases and disorders of the skin and hair.
- You will need to provide pens / pencils and paper.
- Smoking is not permitted on the premises or before attending classes or carrying out treatments.
Assessment
This unit will be assessed by an assignment covering practical skills and underpinning knowledge

For City & Guilds courses you are required to attend an informal interview to ensure selection of the most appropriate course. You can arrange an interview by contacting us either by telephone or e-mail, alternatively return the booking form, you will be contacted to arrange a suitable time. To secure the place, a deposit is required. Once the interview has taken place the booking fee is non-refundable. Payment may be spread over the duration of the course by setting up a standing. There is a £25.00 administration charge made for this facility. Credit cards are accepted and will incur a 2% surcharge, debit cards will incur 35p surcharge.
Training must be paid for in full once training has commenced even if the course is not completed.
