Entry qualifications

Completion of NVQ Level 1 hairdressing, a range of relevant assessments and a successful interview. References from NVQ Level 1 tutors and attendance records will be taken into account.

As with NVQ Level 1 hairdressing educational visits will include Salon International other visits could include The Clothes Show & hairdressing training academies

Course content

NVQ Level 2 hairdressing consists of nine units
Units
Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health & safety - G1
Give clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation -G5
Advise and consult with clients -G7
Cut hair using basic techniques - H6
Shampoo and condition hair and scalp -H9
Style, dress and finish hair using basic techniques -H10
Change hair colour using basic techniques -H13
Perm and neutralise hair using basic techniques -H12
Provide scalp massage services - H18

Additionality

All students will study towards Key Skills Certification Work experience will be an integral part of the course

Assessment

Continuous assessment in written and practical aspects of hairdressing. Additional evidence will be required through assignment work. The Hairdressing National Occupational Standards require individuals to be able to work to a "commercially viable time".

Progression

Possible careers include junior stylist, work in television, on cruise ships, as a photographic session stylist.
