Is this subject right for me?
Do you spend a lot of your free time reading?
Do you enjoy History and Literature?
Classical Civilisation is a fascinating subject in its own right but in gaining a knowledge and understanding of the classical world you will be better equipped to understand our own culture and civilization, which owes so much to Greece and Rome.
You will be introduced to the world of classical literature, politics, theatre and society and you will learn about some of the greatest figures in world history such as the philosophers, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle and the heroic figures of Homer's epics, Achilles, Odysseus, and Helen of Troy. You will also be introduced to some of the major political figures including Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar and Cicero. There is an emphasis on using original sources and you will study the works of Herodotus, Thucydides, Cicero, Plutarch, Homer and Virgil.
