Classical Civilisation students study a range of topics to gain an insight and understanding of the daily lives, attitudes and culture of the Greeks and Romans.

What will I study on this course?
The course covers the following topics:
- Greek and Roman Women: their lifestyles and treatment by men!
- Roman Architecture and Town planning: Why did the Romans build the Colosseum? The magic of Pompeii!
- Greek Drama: Tragedies in their original theatrical setting.
- Roman Legend: The story of Aeneas.
How is this course assessed?
This course is 100% examination based. Students will sit two external exams in June in each of the two years of the course.
What kind of student will do well on this course?
You will experience the following activities on the course:
- Reading original sources in translation and interpreting the writers attitudes.
- Investigating pictures and plans of Roman towns and buildings.
- Producing presentations of the findings of your investigations.
- Discussing the characters and plot encountered in the drama and legends.
- Answering worksheets and writing essays.
