About this course

At Preston College we expect candidates to have a good level of literacy in order to be accepted onto the course. GCSE English or the equivalent is desirable. However, candidates who do not currently hold these qualifications would be expected to undertake these alongside this qualification. This is essential for those candidates who wish to progress onto level two.

Introduction:
This course is designed as an introductory course for candidates who are interested in working as a volunteer in the classroom, or who require an introductory course before progressing onto the level two qualification.

Study Mode & Location:
In order to achieve the qualification candidates are expected to attend college for 30 hours (usually 10 sessions of 3 hours) and volunteer in a relevant setting (usually a school) for a minimum of six hours a week.

Course Content:
The units you will study are as follows:

Assessment:
The assessment for this qualification consists of a portfolio of evidence that the tutor will assess.

The main pieces of evidence for the portfolio are:

  • Work placement diary/log
  • Assessor's observation report
  • Records of oral/written questioning
  • Short assignments/case studies and reports


If you are offered a place on the course it is your responsibility to inform staff at the school and to explain the qualification to them.

How To Apply

Part-Time+ Route
You will need to complete a Further Education Application Form. These will be available from mid-May.
Many courses have limited places so please return your application form as soon as possible. Following acceptance of your application, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.

Part-Time Only Route
You will need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.

Depending upon your circumstances, you may be able to study for FREE or at a reduced price.

Part-Time+ Course Benefits
