Module description

The purpose of this module is to equip you with the knowledge and skills to develop competency to practise as an autonomous psychotherapeutic cognitive behavioural practitioner and prepare the student for professional accreditation.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this module you will be able to:
  • Critically analyse the nature of the therapeutic relationship and application of problem specific idiosyncratic and other approaches to formulationin practice.
  • Demonstrate structured and research based cognitive behavioural interventions and methods of working with complex problems of children and adolescents and adult and their families and cares where apropriate, synthesising and adapting their approach to meet the individual needs of service users.
  • Demonstrate an ability to conceptualise complex problems of children and adolescents utilising problems specific and multi evel cognitive behavioural theories and integrating systemic and holistic approaches, whilst taking into account issues of diversity socio-cutluralfactors including gender, therapeutic relationship, socio-economic influences and other environmental determinants.
  • Demonstrate the ability to critically defend theoretical assumptions and practice decisions with complex child, adolescent and some adult cases within a prfessional and ethical, legal and diversity context.
  • Demonstrate a critical and higher order therapeutic awareness of their own and service user's personal assumptions, values and beliefs and how they may influence the psychotherapist'sinteractions with others.
