Course programme
Creating natural skins tones is one of the most difficult aspects of painting for both experts and beginners alike. Join us on this two day intensive course as we teach you the fundamentals of colour theory with a particular focus on mixing these tricky colours. Through a series of comprehensive exercises you will learn the three main aspects of colour - hue, value, and chroma – and create a series of colour charts which will serve as a reference for mixing skin tones both in the class and for your future artistic practice at home.
With reference to paintings both classical and contemporary you will further explore techniques to express the complexities of this subject matter including, underpainting, glazing and paint application. By working both from imagination and life, you will learn the techniques necessary to create a range of skin tones and qualities, for a variety of purposes.
Course Outcomes
By the end of this course you will learn to not only mix a range of natural looking skin tones but you will also learn how to match skin tones of a particular subject or model. In addition, you will have reviewed the fundamentals of colour theory and have several colour charts which you can continue to use in your own practice.
