All accredited courses will use an opt-out arrangement: those enrolled on an accredited course will be assumed to be studying for credit unless they opt out. Students enrolled on the module can opt out up to and including week 5. Registering for credit and completing matriculation gives you access to the Library and Learning Centre and University facilities.
Anyone opting out of studying for credit will still benefit from attending the course but should be mindful that the course content will be nuanced towards assessment and that they won't recieve a student ID card. There will be no reduction in fees available for those opting out of study for credit.All modules are reviewed regularly with respect to capacity and delivery. This review may lead to a change in the core and/or optional modules offered on a particular course. Module content is reviewed and may be adjusted as part of this process. In some cases adjustments to content may be significant. Modules may be rescinded permanently or withdrawn on a temporary basis at any time.

About this course
This is an accredited course. On successful completion you will receive 10 credits at SHE 1, SCQF Level 7. Assessment will be by coursework (continuous assessment).

Course programme
The module has several aims:
- to allow students to study comics history, and the formal properties of the medium
- to foster an understanding of comics texts through critical analysis and creative work
- to provide students with an opportunity to explore the interaction of comics and graphic novels with other media
The module combines a critical history of the comics and other media with practical exercises and assignments. There will be 5 x 3 hour workshops on Saturday mornings. The workshops comprise of a lecture/seminar and creative component, with each session ending with a reflection on the creative work with feedback from the tutors and peers. For the creative element, students may concentrate on a particular aspect of comics e.g. writing or art, and there will be an opportunity for collaboration.
