About this course

Post GCSE candidates should possess at least 2 GCSEs at Grade D or above. They should also be able to demonstrate a mature manner, flexibility and focus to learn academic subjects to support acquiring professional practitioner skills, eg:· punctuality and excellent attendance· complete and submit case study/allocated work on time

Introduction 1 year full-time
This vocationally related qualification offers initial training for those who wish to be complementary therapists and enter an academically progressive and professionally employable career in the complementary health therapy sector.
The qualification will provide and develop skills to communicate with the client and plan and deliver basic complementary treatments safely and effectively.
The modular units will provide essential knowledge and support practitioner skills development in basic massage therapy, basic reflexology techniques and basic aromatherapy techniques for complementary therapies.

Course Units Supporting core units are:

· Knowledge of anatomy & physiology for complementary therapies
· Health, safety and hygiene for complementary therapies
· Introduction to healthy eating and well-being for the complementary therapy client
· Introduction to clinic services and business awareness for complementary therapies
· Introduction to principles and practice of complementary therapies

Additional units:

· Provide face, neck and chest massage within complementary therapies
· Provide head scalp massage within complementary therapies
· Provide lower leg and foot and forearm and hand massage within complementary therapies

Assessment Assessment will include internal and external format and will be collected in a portfolio of evidence. This will be developed with supportive, continuous, feedback throughout the course:

· to demonstrate achievement of learning outcomes
· evidence practical skills
· prove competency working on clients in a realistic working environment

Any external assessment is set and marked by the awarding body.

Further Opportunities Progression on to the Level 3 Diploma in Complementary Therapies and Higher Education.

Students will be expected to assist in sourcing their own clients for mandatory case study work:
