Course Format

This highly interactive workshop uses a case-study to enable delegates to gain confidence in the use of well proven techniques in the areas listed above. It provides a firm foundation for undertaking the external PMP examination through the use of interactive group exercises and sample Q&A sessions. The course concludes with a 100-question 'mock' examination.

This session provides an introduction to PMBOK®GUIDE approach, the nine knowledge areas and the five process groups. Exploration of the contents of Chapters 1 to 3 of the PMBOK®GUIDE to the Project Management Body of Knowledge.

The Role of the Project Manager

An explanation of the key elements of the Project Manager's role as defined within the PMBOK®GUIDE.

Project Integration Management

An overview of the Knowledge Area, processes, key deliverables and techniques. Exploration of the contents of Chapter 4 of the PMBOK®GUIDE to the Project Management Body of Knowledge.

Initiating the Project

This session considers the Initiating Process Group and provides an explanation of the use of the Project Charter, the Stakeholder Register and the Stakeholder Management Strategy.

Project Justification

This part of the course covers the creation of a business case including costing, quantification of benefits and project appraisal methods.

Stakeholder Analysis

The session looks at the importance of stakeholder management to project success. It provides some tools for analyzing stakeholder attitudes and suggests appropriate management action.

Planning Overview

A high level look at the processes involved in planning a project and the contents of a project management plan.

Work Breakdown Structures

The ability to decompose a project or stage into its component parts is the key to successful planning. This session explores the different techniques for achieving this.

Project Scope Management

This session looks at this PMBOK®GUIDE knowledge area and the associated processes

Estimating

An introduction to proven techniques for estimating the effort and duration required to complete project tasks.

Critical Path Analysis

This session provides practice in this important technique and explains the use of float and free float.

Scheduling

This session examines the process of converting a dependency network into a Gantt chart and includes guidance on resource smoothing and the use of Critical Chain analysis.

Project Time Management

This session looks at this PMBOK®GUIDE knowledge area and the associated processes.

Organization and Communications

The implications of differing organizational models are considered and the process fo creating a communication plan is explained

Project Communications Management

Risk Management

Projects are about change and change involves uncertainty. This is an area of project management that is often misunderstood and misapplied. The session seeks to improve the attendees understanding and explain the PMBOK®GUIDE approach.

Project Quality Management

This session looks at this PMBOK®GUIDE knowledge area and the associated processes. It explains the terminology and introduces techniques for Quality Assurance and Quality Control.

Project Procurement Management

This session looks at this PMBOK®GUIDE knowledge area and the associated processes. It covers the types of contract in common use and the benefits and concerns associated with these.

This session looks at this PMBOK®GUIDE knowledge area and the associated processes. It looks at the cost profile of a project and outlines the budgeting process.

Project Execution

This area of the course examines the skills and knowledge required to manage a project team through the execution process. It covers the kick-off meeting, team roles, leadership, motivation, negotiation and conflict management.

Project HR Management

This session looks at this PMBOK®GUIDE knowledge area and the associated processes.

Project Monitoring and Control

This area of the course examines the skills and knowledge required to control a project and covers; the principles of control systems, the use of Earned Value Analysis and change control systems.
