About the Course
Emphasis within this Computer Aided Design course is on the creative visual side of design, with less emphasis on written work. There are two main focuses of study: first, the skills needed to successfully model three-dimensional products real size within the computer; and second, the study of design theory, exploring the work of established designers and the evaluation of historically significant products.
You will study all aspects of the design process, including:
- Researching the work of designers, both contemporary and historical.
- Freehand sketching to generate ideas.
- Development of ideas through computer modelling.
- Presentation of final ideas in the form of both colour marketing visuals and technical engineering drawings.
Course Aims
Computer Aided Design is a creative course leading to practical skills within the field of three-dimensional computer modelling.
As the final outcome is in the form of a computer model, physical size is of little importance; hence you can design products ranging in size from small watches through to large buildings. You are therefore free to explore designs for products from any aspects of life that interest you
