Overview
The programme will support students to consider the pedagogy of Computer Science, digital literacy and ICT in depth. This part of the course aims to develop subject knowledge and equip student teachers with the skills necessary to become reflective and effective teachers of Computing across the 11 – 18 age range. In Computer Science, the course will consider the key concepts of languages, machines and computation, data and representation, communication and coordination, abstraction and design plus the wider context of computing. In ICT, the focus will be upon the key concepts of communication, manipulating information, critical evaluation and the impact of technology realised through the key processes of finding information, developing ideas, communicating information and evaluating the use of technology. Vital aspects of digital literacy will include a focus on e-safety.
All Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) courses at Liverpool Hope offer students the opportunity to combine a programme of theory with real world experience. The initial professional development focuses on what underpins the work of an effective and successful teacher, while school placements offer you the opportunity to put theory into practice.
Initial Professional Development (IPD): This part of the programme covers the general, more holistic aspects of becoming a teacher. It is largely lecture-based supported by discussion-based seminars with an assigned professional tutor. IPD develops the student teacher's knowledge and understanding of a range of key issues in education.
