Introduction:
Within the qualification, candidates have the opportunity to gain knowledge of basic computerised book-keeping routines concerning the documentation and processes related to making and receiving payments. They will gain an initial insight into both cash and credit business transactions, VAT and other computerised routines.

Study Mode & Location:
Part-time study at Fulwood Campus. 3 hours per week for 16 Weeks.

24 September 2009 Thursday morning 9.30am to 12.30pm.

10 February 2010 - Wednesday evening 6.00pm to 9.00pm

Course Content:
The units you will study are as follows:

Single Unit (IAB Unit Code CB2) - Book-keeping to Trial Balance using Accounting software.

Upon the completion of study for this qualification, it is intended that the candidate will be able to:

  • Understand the business and computer environment
  • Set up the system
  • Create and maintain accounts and enter opening balances
  • Enter transactions into the Sales and Purchase Ledgers
  • Enter transactions into the Nominal Ledger
  • Produce management information relating to customers and suppliers
  • Carry out reconciliations to verify information generated
  • Produce Reports using selection criteria and parameters.


Assessment:
All Learning Outcomes will be assessed through an externally set and marked examination lasting two hours, consisting of a series of two practical tasks in the form of a case study, and one theory task which may be hand-written or prepared using word-processing software. The examination will build on the candidates' computerised book-keeping knowledge and will assess the candidate's ability in relation to the Learning Outcomes. Candidates will be required to carry out the tasks accurately and in keeping with current book-keeping and accounting concepts and practice and the functions of the computerised accounting system.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
The qualification has been designed to provide the essential knowledge, understanding and skills required to complement and enable candidates to progress to related qualifications at Level 2 of the National Qualifications Framework.

The qualification will provide a basis for progression to the study of the IAB Level3 Diploma in Computerised Accounting.

It will also provide some progression to GCSE level in Accounting and related units in the General Vocational Certificate of Education (GVCE) qualifications.

Additional Costs:
The examination fee is currently £35 (payable to the IAB0 and covers your first years student membership.

You may need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser before enrolling on this course.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
