Overview
If you have the ability but not the qualifications, an extended degree is the first step to graduation. This four-year programme is identical to the three-year degree, but includes a foundation year, and has a lower entry tariff. This programme provides you with detailed insight into how computer systems are designed and developed. Maximise your abilities in a degree where you can select individual courses in areas such as digital media, information systems and business-oriented computing. It will be a challenging and rewarding experience.
The programme is run in conjunction with BSc Hons Computer Science, so some modules are common to both. In addition, the broad-based approach allows a flexible learning experience with a large number of choices where you can specialise. This programme aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry. The courses have been designed in conjunction with industry and are continually monitored to make sure that they match the needs of this exciting but fast changing business; you will have the opportunity to use many different types of hardware and software during your studies.

Applicants from a UK educational background:
Applicants would normally apply with the equivalent of 64 UCAS points (or above), plus GCSE English and maths grade C (or above). This might include:

Additional information

Extra information Assessment Teaching and learning will be achieved primarily through taught courses, based around material provided in lectures it is further enhanced by team work and role‐play. In addition, students will be encouraged to extend their knowledge by: Exploring other sources of information Self‐study Discussion of ethical dilemmas Directed research and reading Self‐study using other materials and the use of on‐line resources. Students will be encouraged to use other information sources and documentation, such as online journals and eBooks available through the University's eLibrary. Students will be encouraged at all times to develop their critical faculties and exercise creative problem solving. The final year project gives the opportunity for students to further enhance these skills. The assessment methods are defined in each module description. Each section will be assessed by an appropriate combination of: Examination Coursework Presentations Peer assessment Logs and/or tests. Each course will be assessed through either coursework only or a combination of coursework and examination. The final year project will be assessed as an individual piece of work. Professional recognition This degree has full CITP accreditation from the British Computer Society (BCS), the chartered body responsible for establishing and maintaining technical and ethical standards in the computing profession. The programme also has accreditation from the European Quality Assurance Network for Informatics Education (EQANIE). Careers This degree opens up career opportunities in a range of areas, including programming, software development, IT support, consultancy, Internet and e-commerce applications. You could also choose to work as an independent consultant or in a consultancy team, building and supporting modern computing systems.
