Course programme

The course prepares you for theoretical examinations in Anatomy, Visual Optics, Contact Lens Practice, with laboratory training in Instrumentation and Contact Lens Fitting. Candidates with sufficient practical contact lens experience may attempt the examinations for the Diploma in Contact Lens Dispensing. For those without such experience, City and Islington College offers a complementary course in the practical side of Contact Lens dispensing.

You must have passed all theory and practical examinations of the Diploma in Ophthalmic Dispensing and already be employed in contact lens dispensing.

Students do written examinations in Anatomy, Visual Optics and Contact Lens Practice. Successful completion of these exams counts towards half of a Diploma in Contact Lens Dispensing.

You can take the College's complementary practical course in Contact Lenses. Students with a good deal of practical experience can also take the practical exam and qualify for the ABDO's Diploma in Contact Lens Dispensing (FBDO (Hons) CL).
