The course will act as a celebration of collage, deriving from the French word,"Coller - meaning to glue". Contemporary collage will examine a wide range of methods and materials to explore the unlikely juxtapositions, assemblages and re-contextualisations that are cut and paste within the genre.
We will seek to examine it's relevance in Contemporary Art practice, it's influence on Modernism and it's routes through Art History. Though primarily grounded in the tactile and the two dimensional, projects will attempt to outreach it's three dimensional counterparts and interdisciplinary cousins. Encountered in 12th century China, once the plaything of Marie Antoinette, the brainchild of Braque and Picasso and the engine room of the avant-garde…
Collage has gone on to influence all the Arts and the multifaceted digital world we now live in.
