Course programme
How will I study?
This course is designed for students aged 18 or over who wish to develop a strong foundation in music that will prepare them for a career as a musician. All of our course tutors are practicing jazz musicians with decades of professional experience and are known and respected for their professionalism and artistry. The course is enriched through a rolling program of master classes delivered by some of the finest musicians in Britain, many with international pedigrees. You will not only gain a great standard of learning but an opportunity to improve yourself as a musician. Aural Perception; Harmony and Composition; Improvisation in Music; Keyboard Skills; Music in Context; Music Notation; Music Performance Studies: Improvisation in Music - stylistically aimed, Keyboard Skills - weekly sessions, Music in Context - the history and major artists, Music Notation - pen & paper to Sibelius and Logic: Music Performance Studies - big emphasis on gigs and practical seminars.
How will I be taught?
You will be taught individually and in groups (small and large), applying theories, learning skills, developing idiomatic practice in groups. You will be expected to develop the following skills during the programme of study; synthesis of a range of concepts, knowledge and skills relating to music and production; application of complex theories to practical realistic work situations in the music and production sectors; independence of approach to study as a student of contemporary music.
How will I be assessed?
A wide variety of assessment methods will be used. These will include; practical performances, continuous observation of work, written assignments, group presentations, timed practical tasks, portfolio building and classroom tests.
