Contemporary performance is an artistic and critical field that engages with and cultivates new ways of thinking about our world.
The Contemporary Performance MA at Sussex develops our distinctive interdisciplinary approach to research and teaching, which celebrates and explores the intersections of artistic disciplines including drama, theatre, live art, and choreographic and sonic practices
Taught through a combination of practice and theory, you will develop your artistic and conceptual knowledge and expertise of the field. On this course, you can expect to develop skills in research, analysis, communication, collaboration, and theatre and performance making.

About this course
There are a wide range of career options available to students who complete the MA Contemporary Performance.
Graduates from our courses have gone on to establish successful theatre companies, forged careers as writers, performers and directors, and undertaken further study. Many others have gone to work in related areas, including media, journalism, public relations and marketing, copywriting, and account managing.
You should normally have an upper second-class (2.1) undergraduate honours degree or above.

How will I study?
You’ll choose from a wide range of options in the autumn and spring terms. Modules are assessed through presentations and essays.
In the summer term, you undertake supervised work on your dissertation or a dissertation by practice.
