BA (Hons) Costume Production

The NCDT accredited Costume Production programme will provide you with the understanding and skills needed to pursue a successful career in the production of historical and contemporary costumes and accessories. Our aim is to produce graduates who not only have an appreciation of the expertise and knowledge required to be a successful practitioner, but who also possess the vision and determination to become leaders in the field of costume production. Good professional practice requires an enquiring and analytical approach, and the programme will also provide you with a range of study and research skills that will drive your development as an interpretative artist and craftsperson.

The programme – which is taught by a team of highly experienced, practising professionals – is concerned with the interpretation of designs. You will enjoy a range of practical experiences while working in collaboration with other theatre disciplines on College projects and productions staged in our own theatres or sometimes in London venues.

The Programme at a glance
Over three years, you will:

  • Carry out a variety of roles on College productions as wardrobe assistant, costume supervisor or costume maker
  • Undertake a substantial research project into a costume subject of your choice
  • Have the opportunity for a work placement in the industry or a period of study abroad
  • Prepare for entry into your chosen profession.

Career Progression

Graduates have gone on to work as freelance costume makers, or within wardrobe departments, for Theatre, Television, Film, Cruise Ships, Dance, and Opera companies.
