History
CPTI History and Current PositionOriginsIn 2001 Richard Reynolds founded CPTI to take over the training previously provided under the umbrella of the Edinburgh Institute for Counselling and Psychotherapy separating the training programme from the provision of counselling and psychotherapy. CPTI developed a more formally structured programme in compliance with the requirements of the validating authorities.DevelopmentIn 2001 Helen Ralston joined Richard Reynolds as Development Manager and in 2004 became a partner and was appointed Training Development Director. CPTI successfully obtained validation of a Counselling Diploma by COSCA, the Scottish body for overseeing counselling and validation by Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh for two masters degrees, an MSc in TA Counselling and an MSc in TA Psychotherapy in conjunction with the CTA. The CTA is the professional TA qualification that leads to registration with the UKCP.
Areas of specialisation
Currently CPTI offer the diploma in counselling, the CTA professional psychotherapy certification and the two MSc degrees. In addition a programme of short CPD courses are held on a range of applications for both CPTI trainees and other professionals. In 2008 the programme will be further expanded with the introduction of PG Certificates and Diplomas and MSc degrees in Brief Intervention Psychological Therapies and in Professional Supervision, these courses are in the process of Validation by Napier University, Edinburgh.CPTI provides two stand alone introductory courses the TA101 Introduction to Transactional Analysis and an Introduction to Counselling Skills and a programme of short CPD courses.
