UNIT 6: MANAGING INTERNATIONAL ROAD HAULAGE TRANSPORT OPERATIONS Learning outcomes By completing this unit candidates will develop a knowledge and understanding of the rules, procedures and practices applying when operating a United Kingdom business which uses road haulage vehicles in an international context. After completing this unit candidates will be able to: • Understand and apply the legal framework of relevant international conventions and agreements Understand and apply the provisions of the CMR Convention Interpret the rules relating to drivers’ hours, working time and record keeping requirements as they affect international road haulage operations Apply the rules relating to value added tax on international road haulage operations Identify countries that apply charges to road haulage vehicles for the use of infrastructure or for environmental reasons and understand payment procedures Demonstrate knowledge of payment methods used in international transactions Understand types of credit and the use of credit in international trade Calculate, interpret and tabulate costing information Identify types of insurance used in international road haulage operations and understand the cover offered by each type Identify the terms commonly used in international trade to define the responsibilities that buyers and sellers of goods have to each other Recognise services ancillary to international road haulage and the roles and responsibilities of service providers Apply for and maintain an international operator’s licence and understand the rules and procedures that must be followed Identify the documents used in international road haulage and their purposes Plan international road haulage journeys and have knowledge of restrictions on services and permit requirements Understand the formalities that take place at borders Comply with the requirements for the use of Customs transit regimes Demonstrate knowledge of the maximum weights and dimensions applying to vehicles used in international road haulage operations Understand the rules relating to the international carriage of dangerous goods, waste and perishable foodstuffs Demonstrate knowledge of the requirements in respect of driver qualifications Demonstrate knowledge of the main traffic rules applying in other EU member states Meet the requirements in respect of the action to be taken in the event of a road traffic accident occurring during an international journey Identify other EU member states, their major cities and identify ferry routes operating from the UK Plan international journeys and demonstrate knowledge of the international system of road numbering
