About this course

3 GCSEs at grade D however for mature 19+ students, no formal qualifications are required if the student can demonstrate a keen interest in Art & Design by showing a portfolio of work and a willingness to explore new ideas. Students may have completed an NCFE course. A satisfactory reference is required, together with a successful interview.

Creative Arts for Adults

Course Aims:
To introduce students to a range of Art and Design subject areas and to enable students to develop their basic skills and knowledge relevant to these areas, therefore providing a good basis to go onto a more advanced qualification.

Course Content:
A range of subject areas are investigated through the six units, including;
- painting and drawing,
- 2-dimensional and 3 dimensional visual language,
- the work of other artists and designers,
- specialist art & design optional study, including Graphic design, Fashion & Textiles Design, 3 Dimensional Design and Crafts, Fine Art and Multimedia.

Most of the work is practical, studio and workshop based, supported by related written work.

There will be opportunity to take additional qualifications in Art & Design e.g. Life Drawing etc.

Progression:
BTEC Foundation Studies (Art & Design) or any of the National Diploma courses, (Multimedia, Graphic Design and Art & Design)

Awarding Body:
BTEC

Exam:
Assessment is ongoing throughout the year, based mainly on practical assignments with some written components. All units are assessed and graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded. Two of the units may be externally assessed.

BTEC First Diploma in Art & Design

Students will be sent a material list before the start of the course. There may be other costs related to Educational visits etc.

Duration:
One year Full time (approx 2.5 days per week)
