BA Honours Fine Art Painting

What will I study?

While on the first year of the course you will study the following modules: - Introduction to Painting Drawing Process Contextual Studies Academic and Personal Development Digital Image and Print Making In year two you will study: - Painting Language and Identity Drawing Personal Development Career, Studio and Gallery Practice Painting Critical Studies In your final year you will complete the following modules: - Painting Honours Project Critical Study in Context Professional Presentation All modules are designed to give you the practical, academic and professional skills needed to prepare you for practice within the creative industry.

How is it assessed?

All modules contain formatively assessed coursework where extensive feedback will be given. It is intended as a help and support to you in developing your learning abilities in a range of ways including research, ideas development, the production of final outcomes, the drafting of essays, the gathering of materials for further research, visual presentation and analytical written work. The formal, summative assessment of modules is carried out using a variety of relevant assessment methods. You will be assessed on all aspects of practical and theoretical work produced in response to set and self-directed briefs.

Future prospects?

The Painting Degree can lead to careers such as a painter/professional practice, Post Graduate research, Higher Education progression to Masters level, art workshops in schools and galleries, curatorial roles within existing galleries, setting up new galleries, community arts projects and teaching or lecturing in schools and colleges.

Entry Requirements

All applicants will be individually considered and be required to attend an interview. Applicants must be eighteen years of age by 31st August in the year of entry and will need to have successfully completed studies in Further Education at level 3. Mature entrants (21 years and above) would be required to demonstrate evidence of recent study, and/or relevant vocational experience, and have produced a portfolio of work. Entry from any of the following routes is seen as appropriate, subject to level of achievement A/AS Levels, AVCEs, National Certificates/Diplomas, GNVQ Advanced, Access to HE, HNC or Professional Qualifications. The programme team would normally require potential students to have achieved qualifications equivalent to a UCAS tariff or 120 points.
