Course programme
In the first year, you will be encouraged to read widely and critically across fiction, non-fiction, poetry and scripts/drama. You will share your work with other students, and are asked to both give and receive constructive feedback. In the second year, you will develop your writing skills in fiction, non-fiction, poetry and scripts/drama. This year focuses on developing creative ideas and writing techniques.
- You must satisfy the general entry criteria for A Level courses, which are based on your GCSE results.
- In addition, you must achieve at least a grade B and a grade C in at least two written subjects, such as History, Geography, Humanities, English Literature, Business, Religious Studies and English Language.
International students:
- Equivalent overseas qualifications will be considered.
- IELTS 5.5 (with a minimum of 5.0 in each skill) or equivalent.
In both years, assessment is by coursework (60%) and exam (40%). Successful completion of the first year will give you an AS Level in Creative Writing. Successful completion of the second will give you an A2 Level in Creative Writing.
Taken with Drama or another Humanities course, the A2 Level in Creative writing will set you up for studying the arts or writing at a Higher Level.
