Duration:

Can be adapted to suit needs. Ideally a series of 1-2 hr sessions over a number of months i.e. 4 sessions in all.

Audience:

• This is a mixture of learning aims relating to reading and appraising literature. It would build on existing knowledge related to research methods and would suit individual health professionals in their professional development or a department looking to develop its criteria for setting standards or treatment protocols based on current evidence
• It would also suit those wishing to return to practice after a long break
• It would suit those intending to take higher degrees or return to study in the higher education sector
• It would suit staff wishing to set up a journal club or develop a research culture in the workplace

Aims:

• Be able to ........
• Become an effective research user
• Develop knowledge of research methodologies
• Develop knowledge research principles
• Develop ability to develop criteria for appraising literature
• Design and conduct a systematic literature review
• Differentiate between levels of evidence
• Utilise research findings for given purposes

These aims can be added to suit client needs. An element of these aims can be the basis of a single session.
