About this course

This course aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of caring for individuals with dementia. The course is designed to provide you with the opportunity to enhance your knowledge and skills of critical enquiry alongside the development of an understanding and critical awareness of the pathophysiology and management of the patient with dementia. This course covers the essentials of caring for patients with dementia.

In order to take this course you must be a healthcare professional currently employed in a relevant area of practice. Your work must see you interact with people who have dementia on a regular basis. You should also have a degree, equivalent qualification, or have studied at Level 6.

The role of the health practitioner caring for patients who have dementia in various environments will be explored, drawing on a range of sources and identifying appropriate nursing and therapeutic interventions and best practice. Decision making will be critically analysed in relation to the management of the patient's care including legal and ethical issues, evidence based practice, protocols, and resource allocation.

Upon completing the module you will be awarded a certificate for completion of Tier 3 of the Dementia Core Skills Education and Training Framework - Leadership in Dementia Care.
